Engaging Faith and Culture

Our Speakers

  • Tolerance in Turbulence | September 4th

Join us for a conversation with Rev. Dr. Chad Lakies, VP Ministry Engagement, Lutheran Hour Ministries

We live in a secular age. The culture is hostile. We weren’t trained for this, and we feel unprepared. We’re frustrated and exhausted in trying to figure out how to offer a winsome and effective witness. What if there’s a better way? What if we can understand the culture better?

What if there are helpful strategies for better sharing our faith? This presentation will help you better tap into the openness to the Gospel that’s all around us and teach you an effective strategy for outreach.

  • Absorbing Chaos | October 2nd

Presented by Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer, President Emeritus, Concordia Seminary St. Louis

The topic will be Absorbing Chaos – Embracing Calm – Delivering Hope

First responders run toward, not away from danger. The same should be true for followers of Jesus in our frenetic times, our often out of control lives. Go toward the chaos, feel the chaos in your being, and then turn away to follow the One who promises, “come unto Me, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Embracing His calm, return in faith and fear of God to those who need the hope you can deliver. “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You” (Isaiah 26:3)

  • Christian Nationalism | November 6th

This panel discussion features Rev. Dr. Joel Bierman, Professor of Systematic Theology, Concordia Seminary St. Louis.

Christians know that Jesus is Lord. But, how his lordship over the present world fits with the authority of civil leaders is not easy to sort out. As the influence of Christianity in contemporary American culture continues to diminish, many Christians advocate strong political and even militant action to stem the nation’s slide into ungodly behavior and policies. This inclination or activity goes by many names, but Christian Nationalism captures the sentiments and commitment well. While supporting the extension of God’s truth into America is certainly right, Christians need to consider carefully just how much enthusiasm they should harbor for Christian Nationalism.
